This mid-length film documents the dance rituals of semi-urban San people, who constitute the bulk of the remaining indigenous San population in Southern Africa. Avoiding idealisation or romanticisation, the film explores the massive impact of colonialism and modernity on San culture and the contemporary daily lives of the San people. The film follows several San dance groups as they travel from remote Kalahari villages to the Kuru Dance Festival in Botswana, where their unique and spectacular performances are showcased. The result is a moving journey that explores the age-old trance-healing dance at the heart of San culture.
