Richard’s breakthrough film was The Boers at the End of the World (2015), which played in cinemas for 10 weeks, won 3 SAFTAs and is still screened on DStv a decade later. His latest feature, The Radical (2022), premiered at Encounters and is currently in distribution worldwide. His current focus is helming premium documentary series such as Steinheist (2022), School Ties (2024) and Outside Lane (2024) for Showmax and M-Net. He holds a Master’s degree in film (Cape Town & Barcelona), was a Fellow of Hot Docs Blue Ice in 2018, and was awarded a Medal of Honour by the SA Academy of Sciences and Arts. He is a firm believer in the ability of documentaries to be both entertaining and have a real-world impact.
