Nicholas Badu Quaye is a potter from Kpeshie whose workshop is near the deteriorating Kpeshie Lagoon. In Dead Lagoon, Nicholas gives their account of how human activity and waste have degraded the lagoon, along with the wider effects of climate change. His workshop was closed many times before he found an uncontested area where he developed a co-existence and appreciation for nature. Now, much of the wildlife in the lagoon has been interrupted, the water is filled with waste, and the future of the surrounding forest is in peril. The documentary masterfully contrasts Nicholas’s pottery workshop against the dumping and deforestation by other people while also visually documenting the decay of the lagoon.
