Screenings – CT
Screenings – JHB
Set in Goma, the capital of the eastern North Kivu province, Lobi Ekosimba focuses on how people survive and try to live regular lives amidst the civil war in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The impacts of the conflict are evident from the lack of electricity, poverty, and the hustle and difficulty of getting by. However, the documentary chooses not to show any of the violence, conflict, or displacement directly. Shot in cinéma vérité style, the film showcases the Congolese as resilient people who work to keep their lives stable and do not let the war stop them from trying to thrive.
