Xolani Sithole

Xolani Sithole is a prolific writer and poet from Lamontville, Durban. He began writing poetry in high school and ended up using poetry as a personal tool for self-reflection and rumination. During the tumultuous university era of his life, he chose to use poetry to share his views on issues varying from human behaviour to the unsettling socio-economic imbalances that form the basis of the handicapped politics that are progressively shaping the social mindset. His poetic activism goes back to 2002 at the Poetry Africa Festival, where he became the first poet to perform in a duo alongside renowned recording maskandi artist, Shiyani Ngcobo. In the same year, he was crowned the first SPOT Slam Poetry champion in KwaZulu-Natal. He has five books under his belt, in English and his mother-tongue, isiZulu. His political stance puts him in solidarity with people who are vocal about racial discrimination and human rights abuses.
