About the Film

Shot in black and white, Lagos’ Jebba Street emerges as a microcosm of the city’s surreal, textured life, as street photographer and filmmaker Kagho Idhebor blurs the boundaries between personal history and collective memory. Arriving in Lagos after graduating from the National Film Institute, Idhebor’s camera moves from observation to participation, documenting everyday life while becoming embedded in the community. Built from archival photographs, video footage, and mixed-media animation, the film captures a neighbourhood defined by constant motion, where commerce, culture and community intersect. Beneath informal codes shaped by area boys, a system of reciprocity, curiosity, and belonging takes shape, and subjects often become collaborators in image-making. Interwoven with reflections on his early practice, Jebba Street becomes a focal point where photography preserves fleeting moments within broader patterns of urban change and displacement across Lagos. Through this lens, Idhebor allows everyday life to unfold without imposition, as the street itself emerges as both protagonist and living archive.
