About the Film

Leaving behind the frenetic rhythms and demands of city life in Cape Town, a young couple begins a shared journey of love, self-discovery, and belonging. Drawn to the rural landscape and grounded lifestyle in Suurbraak, they settle on land where time slows and life is redefined through nature, community, and care, nurturing a more intentional future for themselves. As they adapt to farming, shared labour, and close-knit living, the film traces the inherent beauty and challenges of stepping away from urban structures shaped by inequality and disconnection. Encounters with fellow dwellers from Cape Town, Zimbabwe, and Suurbraak reveal a diverse community building a life rooted in kindness, mutual support and ecological awareness. Through daily rituals of growing food, recycling, and restoring land, they confront memory, mental health, and transformation. Tender and observational, A Place called Paradise explores how love, environment, and healing intertwine in the quiet act of returning to what truly sustains life.
