About the Film

When a nationwide blackout falls across Cuba, night becomes a shared condition rather than an interruption. Under the glow of portable lamps and passing headlights, fragments of existence surface and vanish: church bells toll as priests comfort the souls of the faithful, children sing in the streets, chess is played in half-light, and an older couple sing love songs as if rediscovering them. In the absence of visibility, communities gather around ritual, moving through shadows as intuition carries them forward and perception begins to blur. Rendered in striking, transcendental black-and-white imagery, the film captures the impulses of light and rhythm, as reality loosens its hold and imagination surfaces. In this suspended state, human presence becomes its own source of light, inhabiting the dark until the boundary between body and environment dissolves. Sueña Ahora embeds itself within a mirage of visions, where memory and perception fold into one another, dissolving distinctions between what is remembered and what is felt, between waking and dreaming
