About the Film

Perched above the crashing waves of Acapulco, Guerrero, at the cliffs of La Quebrada, divers step to the edge and leap. VOICES FROM THE ABYSS follows an extraordinary community of cliff divers who risk their lives plunging over 100 feet into the sea below. Captured in hypnotic black-and-white slow motion, their bodies cut through skies, transforming gravity into flight. Through intimate testimonies, the film reveals the forces that drive each jump:; tradition, survival, faith, and a living heritage passed through generations. As the Virgin Mary watches over the ocean, diving becomes a delicate balance between life and death, where devotion hangs between air, water, and flesh. Behind each jump lies the precision of timing, the mathematics of descent, the engineering of cliffs, and the unpredictability of nature, negotiating spirituality with physics. VOICES FROM THE ABYSS moves between adrenaline and reflection, emerging as a portrait of those brave enough to leap into the skies, for seconds of eternity, into the calling of the abyss.
