About

Miguel Eek (Madrid, 1982) is a documentary filmmaker and producer. Graduated in ESCAC with a stay at the Arcada Polytechnic University of Helsinki.

His cinema focuses on social margins, collective memory, and formal experimentation, moving between close observation and the film essay. His films, often the result of long processes of research and dialogue with the protagonists, unfold a poetics that lies between testimony and political reflection, addressing themes such as identity, gender, historical memory, and cinema as a space for community encounter.

His films have been selected and awarded in more than 50 festivals around the world. City of the dead, a documentary that toured around thirty festivals such as Fipadoc or SEMINCI and was recognized with the City of Palma Award 2019. The same year, his next feature, The First Woman, had its world premiere in the First Appearance section of IDFA 2020, and over 20 international film festivals. His latest film, Burden, had its world premiere at FIDBA. His last film Amilcar will premiere at IDFA and Gijón IFF. Since 2019 is the Artistic director of Majordocs film fest.
