Amílcar has directed and produced large scale projects dealing with land, memory and dispossession for Google Arts & Culture and curated and managed festival stages across Europe focused on cinema and music of the African Diaspora. Her award-winning feature documentaries and online episodicals have garnered +4 million views while her film work has been exhibited at museums in London, Dublin and Vienna reflecting her commitment to bridging social inquiry with public engagement.
Amílcar has an academic background in Law, Political Science, History and AI Policy. Her latest directed feature film in development explores the consequences and possibilities of agentic technology for the continent, nominated for Best Documentary Project by the Saxon State Ministry for Science and Culture (Germany).
Amílcar is the co-chair of South African Screen Federation (SASFED), a board member of the Documentary Filmmakers Association (DFA) and lead of their Advocacy working group. She is a regular juror for Rough Cut Labs Africa, and has written several papers on the strategic importance of the Cultural and Creative Industries. Amílcar is committed to the rich and varied narratives of the African continent.
